For cabinet refacing, you must have a solid face frame and the body or carcass needs to be intact, and the drawer boxes and drawer glides should be in good working order. Refacing involves using a 3M wood veneer with a PSA adhesive backer and applying the prefinished veneer to the cabinet face to create a new look. New doors and drawer fronts are built or ordered, stained, and finished to match.

Refinishing

Refinishing is another viable option for the right need. It requires the same qualifications as refacing. Unlike refacing the doors and fronts, the existing cabinets must be made with solid wood, not decorative photo board discount products. The process involves labor-intensive work such as sanding the cabinet faces and refinishing, staining, or painting the cabinets. Some of the work is done on-site, which can make certain processes more challenging.

Depending on your needs, cabinet refacing and refinishing can be cost-effective and less invasive options for updating your home. You could save even more if you don’t need to replace the drawer boxes and want to keep the existing countertops.
